‘And Just Like That’ star says ‘naked’ sex scenes were ‘weird’
It’s getting hot in here — or is it?
“And Just Like That … ” star Evan Handler, 62, is revealing why he found doing sex scenes as character Harry Goldenblatt to be “weird” — and why he was surprised by them, too.
“It is a weird thing that I started being called upon to do sex scenes, kiss women, and take off my clothes from 40 years old on,” Handler said of going nude on the original “Sex and the City” series during an appearance on Interval Presents’ “Yeah, I F–ked That Up” podcast Tuesday.
“What’s that about?” he continued. “My inner dynamo was finally recognized.”
The revelation came just ahead of the Season 2 finale of “AJLT,” which drops at 3 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, on Max.
It’s especially noteworthy, as Kim Cattrall will be making a surprising, much-anticipated cameo, The Post exclusively revealed in May.
On the Interval podcast, Handler also explained that his character, a divorce lawyer who is married to character Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), was first described to him as someone who was “overbearing and unattractive.”
He was taken by surprise when he read the “SATC” script, which asked him to strip down for some scenes.
It was the first time in his career he had ever gone nude on-screen.
“‘Sex and the City’ was the first time I get a script — I’d already been doing some episodes — here’s a script that says, ‘Scene 1: Harry naked, Harry naked, Harry naked,’” he explained on the podcast. “So, I had never done that before.”
He added that he was unfamiliar with all of the “logistics” of what goes on in a sex scene, especially when it comes to filming details.
“I don’t know anything at that point about the little flesh-colored socks you tape on your crotch,” he said. “You know, like privacy patches and things like that.
“The wardrobe department comes to you with a tray [and asks], ‘Would you like to use this, this, this or this?’” he continued. “There’s literally one called the c–k sock, which you put over your d–k and tie in a knot.”
But since he first began shooting sex scenes on the hit show in 2002 during its fifth season, things have changed — especially on the reboot.
He explained that now, most shows have something called an “intimacy coordinator,” who helps to choreograph and arrange the sex scenes.
During this past season of “AJLT,” Handler and Davis got intimate quite a bit, including during the fourth episode after Harry and Charlotte sent their two children off to summer camp.
On Thursday, Aug. 24, viewers will be in for a treat as they watch the Season 2 finale of “And Just Like That…,” which will feature a scene in which Cattrall, who plays sultry publicist Samantha Jones, will briefly reprise her role.
She initially turned down a spot on the reboot after rumors of a feud between her and the rest of the cast members made headlines.
Her appearance was kept “hush-hush” to producers and the rest of the cast, as a source told The Post that Cattrall arrived in an SUV with blacked-out windows to help hide her.
“The fact that they’re keeping it very hush-hush says that there’s some implication that she might be coming back — not this season, but it’s definitely a cliffhanger that’s gonna get people to come back for Season 3,” an insider told The Post of Cattrall’s cameo in May.
And, while it still remains unclear if the star will be making a permanent comeback, it was confirmed this week that the show has been renewed for a third season on Max.
The first season premiered in 2021 on the streaming platform.
