Annapolis, Maryland shooting leaves 3 dead, 3 wounded: police
Six people were shot — three fatally — during a dispute in a Maryland neighborhood on Sunday night, police said.
Annapolis police said gunfire erupted around 8 p.m. when officers responded to a call about a shooting at a home in the Paddington Place area, which Mayor Gavin Buckley described as a middle-class residential neighborhood.
When officers arrived, police found six individuals who sustained gunshot wounds.
Three victims, whose ages ranged from early 20s to 50s, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Annapolis Police Chief Edward Jackson confirmed a person of interest is in custody though a motive for the shooting is not known as of Monday morning, but reiterated the tragedy wasn’t a “random act of violence.”
“This was an interpersonal dispute, so I want to show the community there is no public safety threat as a result of this unfortunate incident,” Jackson said
The wounded were transported to area hospitals in unknown conditions.
Police did not disclose the relationship between the gunman and the victims.
“Tonight was an example of, yet again, senseless violence,” Buckley said. “People trying to resolve issues with guns. It is the most ridiculous thing that we can do as a society. We have to do things to stop this.”
“We are saddened, saddened for the families, saddened for Annapolis that they have to deal with things like this,” he added.
