Arizona girl Alicia Navarro’s family glad she can ‘come back home’— but case still active after she miraculously reappeared

The family of the missing Arizona girl who miraculously appeared in Montana this week are thankful she can “come back home”.

Alicia Navarro, now 18, arrived at the Havre Police Department on Sunday around 11 a.m. and requested she be taken off the missing persons list, four years after she disappeared.

Since her reappearance, Navarro has “spoken briefly” with her mother Jessica Nuñez, but has not returned to Arizona, the family’s private investigator Trent Steel exclusively told the New York Post Thursday.

Navarro’s family — who have asked for privacy — thanked the Glendale Police Department in a statement released to Fox 10, writing: “We want to start by saying how happy we are that Alicia has been found alive and safe.

“It is a blessing that after being missing for so long Alicia can come back home.

“We would also like to thank the Glendale Police Department [forr their] hard work and dedication.”

Navarro, 18, (pictured on Sunday) arrived at the Havre Police Department on Sunday around 11am to request she be taken off the missing persons list after she went missing four years ago in September 2019, the department confirmed to the New York Post on Thursday.

The Glendale Police Department sent officers to Havre and are leading the ongoing investigation, alongside the FBI and US Marshals.

Havre Police Department is also assisting to piece together where Navarro, who’s mother says she has high-functioning autism, has been and with whom since she disappeared from her home in the Glendale area days before her 15th birthday in 2019.

It is also unclear if Nuñez has flown to Montana to meet with her daughter, who is now legally an adult, to bring her home.

The family went on to thank the Anti-Predator Project for “their commitment to supporting our family,” and the media and the plethora of online supporters for keeping the story of the disappearance in the headlines.

Navarro left home in September 2019 with her phone and laptop as she had asked her mother earlier in the day when she was going to bed, leading to her mother believing she had been lured from home by an online stranger.

“It has helped our family through some very dark times, and we cannot thank you enough,” the family said in the statement.

At the time of her disappearance Navarro only left her family a note which read: “I ran away. I will be back. I swear. I’m sorry.”

Nuñez told 12 News in 2022 her daughter had stacked chairs up in the backyard and hopped the fence, taking her phone and laptop when she disappeared.

Prior to her disappearance, Nuñez and her daughter had visited a chocolate factory and Navarro had asked her mother when she was going to bed that evening.

This later led to Nuñez to believe her daughter had been lured into leaving the home, as the majority of people she had interacted with was through online video games, the Washington Post reported.

Police have not revealed if Navarro has been living with anyone the last four years or why she ran away.

“I would never imagine that she will be willing to do something like this,” Nunez told the outlet in 2022.

Since her reappearance, Navarro has talked to Glendale Police and apologized for the harm she caused her mother.

When police asked her over a FaceTime call if “anybody hurt you in any way,” the young woman replied that no one had.

Steel told The Post on Thursday that Navarro had “not made her intentions clear” on whether or not she would return home to Glendale.
