Arkansas boy drowns in storm drain during flood

An 11-year-old Arkansas boy drowned after being swept into a storm drain during a severe storm Monday, a report said.

The boy and a 47-year-old woman were pulled into the drain by ferocious flood waters in Bentonville, according to The Arkansas Democrat & Gazette.

The child had been playing in the water near a retention area with other kids when he “became distressed,” and the woman ventured in to help, police told the newspaper.

She was rescued and taken to the hospital, according to the report. The child — who was found deeper into the tunnel — could not be resuscitated and died at the hospital, the article said.

The same deadly storm brought damaging winds, heavy rains and flash flooding up through the Midwest and killed two others.

A 14-year-old girl was electrocuted by a downed power line in Monroe, Michigan Monday night, police said.

Less than 30 miles away, a woman was killed in Toledo, Ohio when a tree fell on her, according to WNWO-TV.
