Arrest warrant issued against Pakistan’s Imran Khan: report
A local magistrate in the Margalla area of Pakistan issued an arrest warrant Saturday against controversial former Prime Minister Imran Khan, according to a report.
The warrant followed an explosive press conference in which Finance Minister Ishaq Dar accused Khan of stealing state secrets and using them for his own political benefit, BOL News reported.
Khan, who was ousted as prime minister in April but remains head of the opposition Tehreek-e-Insaf party, was hit with terrorism charges in August after he gave a speech in which he threatened to sue police officials and a judge, alleging that they had tortured a close aide.
Party members vowed to resist any attempt to arrest Khan, the report said.
Khan lost a no-confidence vote on April 9 after opponents blamed him for Pakistan’s slumping economy and accused him of corruption.
