If Roma win the Europa League, they will qualify for the Champions League. If not, their Serie A place will determine any European qualification.

As things stand, fifth place gets a Europa League spot and sixth one in the Europa Conference League. But if Inter Milan beat Fiorentina in Wednesday’s Coppa Italia final, sixth place will bestow a Europa League spot and the Europa Conference League berth shifts to seventh.

So, as things stand, seventh-placed Roma will not qualify for Europe. But a win today will see them leapfrog Atalanta and move sixth, two points off fifth-placed AC Milan. Their league standing will be irrelevant if they win the Europa League, which is clearly Plan A.
