Ashley Carty secures return to professional snooker tour with victory in play-off final

Ashley Carty secured his return to the main World Snooker Tour next season with a 5-2 win over Austria’s Florian Nuessle in the final of the Q Tour play-off on Sunday.

The 27-year-old Rotherham potter lost his place on the main circuit last year, but bounced back with victory in Darlington that included breaks of 71, 55, 57 and 58.

Carty has restored full playing privileges for 2023/24 and 2024/25 after first turning professional in 2018.

The 2020 Crucible qualifier defeated Farakh Ajaib (4-3) – from 3-0 behind in his first match – Hamim Hussain (4-1) and Ross Muir (4-2) to reach the final.

Former Shoot Out semi-finalist Martin O’Donnell topped the 2022/23 Q Tour rankings to secure his tour card for next term with Carty securing the second place available via the play-offs.
