At least 12 shot, 2 stabbed
At least 12 people were shot and two others were stabbed during a violent Sunday night in the city.
The bloodshed spanned all five boroughs.
A 16-year-old boy was one of four people shot in Brownsville at around 8:24 p.m. when a fight broke out near the Rockaway Avenue subway station, police sources said. One person involved in the brawl opened fire, shooting the teen in the head and a second man in the stomach.
Two others suffered graze wounds.
The teen was rushed to Maimonides Hospital in critical condition.
About two hours earlier, a 74-year-old woman was shot in the stomach in East New York, law-enforcement sources said.The woman was sitting in the courtyard of the Louis Heaton Pink Houses at around 6:36 p.m. when she heard gunfire and felt a bullet pierce her stomach. She was taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition.
Another man was shot on New York Avenue in Brooklyn at around 11:15 p.m.
Meanwhile, in The Bronx, a 13-year-old girl and her mother were shot on Bristow Street just before 9 p.m. Both were in stable condition.
At around 7 p.m., a woman walking her dog was struck by gunfire just a couple blocks away, on Southern Boulevard.
On Staten Island, a woman walked into Richmond University Medical Center Sunday night with a gunshot wound.
There were also two stabbings in Queens Sunday.
Oscar Gutierrez, 52, was killed at 6:30 p.m. near Jamaica Avenue and Queens Boulevard, police said. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he died, with multiple stab wounds to the torso.
Another man was stabbed in Flushing Meadows Corona Park just before 8 p.m., police sources said.
In Manhattan, a man was shot at around 11:30 p.m. in Harlem.
A 34-year-old man was shot dead in Harlem near the corner of Malcolm X Boulevard and 115th Street minutes before 11 p.m., sources said.
Police believe the shooting may have been gang-related.
About 15 minutes later, a man was shot in the leg on New York Avenue in Brooklyn’s Little Haiti, police sources said.
Another person was shot in Manhattan after midnight. The victim was shot near West 22nd Street and Sixth Avenue around 12:20 a.m. by a shooter who fled in a white SUV. The victim was alert and conscious after getting struck, police sources said. A nearby police car was also struck by a bullet, but no officers were hit and police do not believe it was a targeted attack at this point.
