At least 25 injured in Montana country club deck collapse

A Montana country club deck suddenly collapsed Saturday night, injuring at least 25 people, police said.

First responders in Billings got a 7:50 p.m. call about the disturbing cave in at Briarwood Country Club, where a second-floor patio gave way.

Billings Police Lt. Matt Lennick said at least 25 people were transported to nearby hospitals, with about 11 taken to Billings Clinic, where police had shut down roads to let emergency vehicles to get through.

There were no fatalities reported.

“Billings Clinic is fully prepared to help with this unfortunate situation,” Dr. Clint Seger, the CEO of Billings Clinic, said in a statement. “We have multiple trauma surgeons, ER physicians and the ER team along with critical care staff on site receiving patients.”

At least eight of the patients have been released, but police noted an unknown number of people caught in the collapse simply walked away.

Witnesses at the country club said many of those involved in the cave in suffered leg and head injuries, KTVQ reported.

An investigation remains ongoing, officials said.

The Briarwood Country Club was hosting a golf tournament, with about 250 people registered the night of the collapse, the Billings Gazette reported.

The club did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

The Montana club, located on Briarwood Boulevard, has been around since 1984, offering members unlimited use of its golf, dining and swimming facilities for $265 a month, according to its website.
