Aunt of Texas school shooter Salvador Ramos starts GoFundMe
The aunt of Texas school shooter Salvador Ramos has started a GoFundMe page asking for money for his grandmother — who he shot in the face before slaughtering 19 little kids and two teachers.
Natalie Salazar, who said she is ailing grandma Celia Gonzalez’s daughter and Ramos’s aunt, is seeking $30,000 to help pay her mom’s medical bills.
The page has raised a little over $9,000 so far.
“My mom was shot in the face and left to die alone in her home by her very own grandson,” wrote Salazar, who relatives told The Post is the sister of Ramos’s mother.
“It was by the grace of God that she was able to get up off the floor and walk to a neighbors home and ask for help,” Salazar said of Gonzalez.
After blasting his grandmother and shattering her jaw, Ramos jumped in his grandparents’ Ford truck and drove to Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, where he fatally shot 19 fourth-graders and their two teachers.
Salazar wrote that one of Ramos’s victims, 10-year-old Layla Salazar, is her niece on her dad’s side — and thus a cousin of the shooter by marriage. But Layla’s father told The Post that the link was dissolved by a divorce years ago and that his family didn’t consider them related.
“I speak for my children and I when I say we’ve been hit from all sides,” Natalie wrote in her funding plea.
“We give our most sincere condolences to all the families that lost a loved one that day, as my children and I have lost my little cousin Layla on my dads side of the family too and my nephew on my moms side.”
The “nephew’’ she was referring to was the killer.
Some donors openly voiced their sympathy for Natalie and her family, urging others not to blame Ramos’s relatives for his rampage, while many who contributed to the page remained anonymous.
“I don’t have much to donate, but I want the family to know that there are people who support them despite the tragedy that occurred,” wrote one giver.
A relative of Ramos’s, Jason Ybarra, told The Post, “I understand why people wouldn’t donate.
“There’s nothing but anger and rage for the shooter’s family,” he said.
Natalie’s mother is expected to survive the shooting but may have permanently lost her ability to speak, Ybarra told The Post.
Natalie wrote, “It will be months before she can even go home.
“I’m asking whole heartedly to please help my mom,” she said. “Bills will be piling up from home and from the hospital. Any donations are greatly appreciated.”
She also pleaded for understanding in the wake of the tragedy.
“We can not keep judging,” Natalie wrote. “Leave that to God. Quit tearing each other down we can not let evil win. I pray for peace and for God to comfort you in these difficult times as we ourselves are also grieving.”
