The second day of the 2023 Australian Open will see Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Ons Jabeur, Caroline Garcia and Casper Ruud play their first-round matches.

Nine-time Melbourne champion Djokovic will provide the headline entertainment of the day, with the Serb last up in the Rod Laver Arena against 75th-ranked Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena.

Former world No.1 Murray faces a big test against Matteo Berrettini, while in the women’s draw world No.2 Jabeur begins her bid for glory against Tamara Zidansek and fourth seed Caroline Garcia takes on Katherine Sebov.

Top men’s match – Novak Djokovic v Roberto Carballes Baena

He’s back. After missing last year’s Australian Open following his Covid vaccination-related deportation from Australia, Djokovic is ready to launch his bid for a staggering 10th Australian Open title against Spain’s Carballes Baena.

The 35-year-old has won his last 33 matches in Melbourne and arrives on the back of a triumph in Adelaide, while he brushed away pre-tournament concerns about his fitness on Monday. Can he get off to a fast start against a player who has only once made it past the first round in Australia?

Top women’s match – Tamara Zidansek v Ons Jabeur

Jabeur is always worth watching thanks to her entertaining style of play, and the Tunisian’s bid to finally win a Grand Slam gets underway against the world No.88 from Slovenia.

After finishing as a runner-up at Wimbledon and the US Open last year, Jabeur is determined to kick on in 2023 – and she can’t afford any mistakes here.

Brit watch

Andy Murray was handed a fierce draw, pitted against 13th seed Matteo Berrettini, and their mouth-watering clash is third up in the Rod Laver Arena.

Daniel Evans, the 25th seed, is also in action and faces Argentina’s Facundo Bagnis first on Court 7
