Both Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic are in action on the sixth day of the 2023 Australian Open.

Five-time finalist Murray, who beat Thanasi Kokkinakis in five hours and 45 minutes in the early hours of Friday morning, will be hoping to reach the fourth round for the first time since 2017, while Djokovic is set to continue his run for his 22nd Grand Slam in Melbourne.

Top men’s match – Novak Djokovic v Grigor Dimitrov

A decade ago, Grigor Dimitrov recorded his sole win over Djokovic at the ATP Masters in Madrid. There were a few close sets at Wimbledon in 2014, but with a 9-1 career record, history is not on the side of the Bulgarian.

Djokovic has had some issues with his hamstring and after his second-round victory against Enzo Couacaud, the Serb said that his hamstring was “not good at all” and that he’s taking it “day by day.”

Dimitrov has made it to the semi-finals in Melbourne back in 2017 and has won both of his matches at the tournament this year in straight sets, but he’s certainly about to face his toughest opponent yet as Eurosport expert Mats Wilander believes that if it comes down to it, Djokovic will play “on one leg if he has to” in order to go as far as possible in the tournament.

Top women’s match – Aryna Sabalenka v Elise Mertens

Aryna Sabalenka and Elise Mertens is set to be the most interesting of the women’s singles matches on day six due to the fact that the two were former doubles partners.

Together, they won two Grand Slam titles, in Melbourne in 2021 and at the US Open in 2019. Having played together, the two could not be more familiar with each other’s game, and will now be forced to try and exploit any weaknesses against each other.

Brit watch

All eyes will be on Murray tomorrow, who has had an exhilarating tournament so far, to see if he can make it one step further against Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut.

Murray has won back-to-back marathon five-setters against both Matteo Berrettini and Kokkinakis, while Bautista Agut managed to come back from two sets down to defeat Brandon Holt in the second round.

The Briton has played an unbelievable amount of tennis, with his match against Kokkinakis being the longest match of his career. He’ll also face the task of coming up against a player that he hasn’t beaten since 2016, with Bautista Agut winning their last three encounters.

It will certainly be a tough test, but if anyone has proven that they are up for a difficult task, it’s Murray.

Evans will also be in action, taking on fifth seed Andrey Rublev, while in the doubles, Lloyd Glasspool and Neal Skupski are set to feature.
