Australian Open 2024: Nick Kyrgios slams ‘ridiculous’ Novak Djokovic time violation – ‘Just ridiculousness!’

Eurosport commentator Nick Kyrgios was not particularly happy about seeing Novak Djokovic receive a time violation while on serve at the Australian Open.

Djokovic was serving at 30-15 in the third game of the third set when the umpire intervened before his delivery to give him a time violation for not being quick enough into his action, and the crowd responded with surprise.

For Kyrgios, who is commentating for Eurosport through the tournament while he is sidelined through injury, it was an example of a “not necessary” violation that did not need to be given to the player, particularly in the match situation.

“Not necessary, ridiculous!” exclaimed Kyrgios on commentary for Eurosport.

“Just ridiculousness! It’s like they get bored and they just want to say something instead of the score, like ridiculous.

“It completely ruins the flow of the match. It just gave him [Djokovic] more time to compose himself.”

It did not deter Djokovic regardless, as the Serb swiftly proceeded to hold serve and continue his fine momentum in the match.

Djokovic, who already holds a staggering record of men’s singles titles at Melbourne Park, is eyeing an 11th crown at the opening Grand Slam of the season and a 25th major in total.
