Australian Open: Oh no! Nick Kyrgios and girlfriend Costeen Hatzi watch on in horror as security man falls over plant

Nick Kyrgios may be out of the 2023 Australian Open due to injury, but he was still around some drama as his security man took a tumble over a plant behind the scenes at Melbourne Park.

Home favourite Kyrgios held a press conference on Monday and confirmed to the media that he would be withdrawing from the tournament due to a knee injury he had been battling in the lead-up to the event for which he was one of the favourites in both the singles and doubles.

It was an announcement that few people saw coming, particularly after a jokey Kyrgios entertained the fans inside Rod Laver Arena on Friday with a special exhibition alongside the returning Novak Djokovic, but he had guarded the severity of his knee injury.

Despite it being a huge blow to both Kyrgios and to tennis fans with him being out of the tournament before it had even started, the Canberra star is still present at the event to support his fellow players – most notably his good friend and doubles partner, Thanasi Kokkinakis, who won his second-round match to set up a tasty clash with Britain’s Andy Murray.

Filmed behind the scenes on one of the Australian Open’s ‘Player Warm-Up Area’ cameras, Kyrgios and his girlfriend, Costeen Hatzi, were helpless onlookers as a security man alongside them turned his back to a large plant while gesturing behind him and took a nasty tumble.

To Hatzi’s credit, she swiftly attempted to help the man back up to his feet as all three laughed at the incident. Fortunately, he was absolutely fine and was able to chuckle about the trip with the pair.

The entertainment continued for Kyrgios and Hatzi as they enjoyed the play at Melbourne Park on Wednesday, and the pair will likely be back to see if Kokkinakis can defeat Murray and continue his progression in the tournament.
