Bayern Munich 3-1 Augsburg: Harry Kane bags a brace as Thomas Tuchel’s side stroll to comfortable Bundesliga win

Harry Kane scored twice to help Bayern Munich maintain their perfect start to the Bundesliga season with a 3-1 win over FC Augsburg.

The hosts took the lead in the first half with a scrappy goal when Leroy Sane’s effort ricocheted off back-tracking defender Felix Uduokhai before narrowly crossing the line.

A few minutes later Bayern were awarded a penalty, which Kane stepped up to bury with confidence for his second goal in as many games.

But the English talisman wasn’t done there. He found himself through on goal in the second half after a pass from Alphonso Davies, and delicately chipped the ball over goalkeeper Finn Dahmen to put his side in clear water.

With four minutes of normal time left on the clock, Augsburg grabbed a consolation through substitute Dion Beljo, who scored with a cute finish from close range.

Bayern weren’t at their scintillating best, even with the addition of Kane in the frontline, but they scrappily found the breakthrough via Sane’s deflected effort.

The winger darted into the box and received the ball to feet, took one touch to open his body up before slotting a low effort to Dahmen’s left, but the goalkeeper denied the German with his feet.

But the ball would not rebound kindly for Augsburg, as it bounced off retreating defender Uduokhai’s knee and trickled over the line.

The hosts pushed for a second and they were awarded a penalty when Joshua Kimmich’s shot from outside the box deflected off the outstretched arm of Niklas Dorsch.

Kane stepped up and planted the ball down the middle of the goal to double Bayern’s lead.

Bayern grabbed a third and Kane his second when he was slipped through by Davies, before dinking the ball over Dahmen to put the game beyond doubt.

Thomas Tuchel’s side will be disappointed not to come away from the game with a clean sheet, as Beljo scored late on, but it would only be a consolation as Bayern wrapped up the points.

KEY TALKING POINT – KANE AT THE DOUBLE

Harry Kane has now scored in seven consecutive league games, five for Tottenham, and in both of his games for Bayern. In the end, his goals proved to be the match-winners and he could make all the difference for Bayern in their quest for domestic and European success.

He backed up his goal and assist in his league debut last week with a brace in his home debut on Sunday, and has seemingly settled in nicely after his £100m transfer.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH – HARRY KANE (BAYERN MUNICH)

It just had to be the English marksman.

He gave Bayern a two-goal cushion when he convincingly converted his first-half penalty, before instinctively dinking the ball over the goalkeeper for his second, and Bayern’s third.

Tuchel and Bayern fans will have enjoyed the second goal especially, because it’s the sort of quality in front of goal they’ve missed since the departure of Robert Lewandowski last year.

It feels as though Bayern finally have their replacement.
