Bethany England moves from Chelsea to rivals Tottenham in record Women’s Super League transfer

Bethany England has completed her move to Tottenham Hotspur from Women’s Super League rivals Chelsea.

The striker moves to north London for a reported £250,000 fee – a record deal between two WSL sides – signing a contract until 2026.

England scored 74 goals in 164 appearances for the Blues after moving from Doncaster Belles in 2016, helping them to four WSL titles.

The 28-year-old excelled in the 2019/20 season with 21 goals in all competitions in Chelsea’s league and Women’s League Cup double-winning campaign.

She was also named Chelsea Women’s Player of the Year, Barclays FA Women’s Super League Player of the Season and PFA Players’ Player of the Year that season.

England has 21 caps at International level and was a key part of the Euro 2022-winning Lionesses team last summer.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of Bethany England from Chelsea,” announced Tottenham.

“The experienced England international forward has signed a contract with us until June 2026 and will wear the number 19 shirt.”

Bidding farewell to the club legend, Chelsea wrote: “After seven years of service to the club, Chelsea Women can today confirm the departure of forward Bethany England to Tottenham Hotspur.

“Everyone at Chelsea would like to thank Bethany for her impeccable service to the club, and wish her every success in her future endeavours.”

Speaking on England’s achievements at the club, Blues manager Emma Hayes said: “Beth has given tremendous service to the club. She has contributed to all of our success over the past seven years and she leaves a winner and a Chelsea legend.

“We wish her the very best for the next stage of her career.”

Chelsea currently sit on top of this year’s WSL table with 27 points from their opening 10 matches while Tottenham are down in eighth place having won just three times so far this campaign.
