Biden tells Louis-Dreyfus, Springsteen, Wang he’s no threat
WASHINGTON — President Biden declared Tuesday that, “I have absolutely no talent at all — none” during an awards ceremony for celebrities at the White House.
Biden presented the National Medal of Arts to “Veep” and “Seinfeld” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Bruce Springsteen, fashion designer Vera Wang and “The Office” actress Mindy Kaling, among others.
“I’m going to talk with Julia about whether she likes being VP or president better. I got to figure that one out,” Biden joked — referring to Louis-Dreyfus’ fictional TV ascent to the presidency.
Biden cracked another joke — ribbing his wife Jill Biden — when introducing Wang, noting that he met the famous designer earlier in the day.
“As I said today… I said, ‘Every time I open the closet, I see her’ when I got introduced to Vera. And Jill turned to me and said, ‘What did you say that for?’” the president told his audience.
“It’s all those labels… you knew what I mean, didn’t you?” Biden said to Wang.
“I guess I could have said it a little better,” Biden went on, adding, “Your dresses always look beautiful on my wife, God love her.”
Dreyfus held hands with Biden as her award entry was read before humorously pretending to be weighed down by her large medal when Biden placed it around her neck.
Kaling didn’t make a stab at comedy and instead pointed toward the ceiling in an expression of gratitude to the supernatural.
Springsteen walked off stage after Biden, making an apparent lyrical joke with a personal spin, said, “Bruce, some people are just born to run man.”
The 80-year-old president is preparing to launch a 2024 re-election campaign.
