Biden up 6 points in election rematch if Trump is convicted: poll

President Biden leads Donald Trump by six points in a potential 2024 election matchup if the former president ends up convicted of any of the four felony indictments levied against him, a new poll shows.

Biden, 80, would prevail by a margin of 45% to 39% over Trump, 77, in the event of a post-conviction ballot, according to a WPA Intelligence survey exclusively shared with The Post.

If the former president is not convicted on any counts, Biden would still hold a slight lead over Trump in the general election — garnering 43% of voters support compared to Trump’s 41% and 11% of voters undecided.

WPA Intelligence CEO Chris Wilson is also the head of polling and data for Never Back Down PAC, which supports Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ bid for the Republican nomination.

Neither the super PAC nor any of its affiliates sponsored the survey, WPA said.

The poll also shows Biden increasing the margin of his lead among independent voters to 44% if Trump is convicted, with the former president falling to 30%.

Meanwhile, Republican support for the former president would drop five percentage points, from 86% to 81%, with at least 6% saying they would not vote in the 2024 election if he were convicted and became the nominee.

Trump faces a federal indictment for allegedly retaining classified documents after leaving office; a municipal indictment for allegedly paying “hush money” to a porn star before the 2016 election; and both a federal and state indictment for his attempts to overturn the 2020 election in Washington, DC, and Georgia.

A majority of voters (63%) also said that he should have been charged in the Peach State for interfering in the election, including 76% of voters who are undecided about supporting Trump or Biden, the WPA poll found.

“A clear majority of voters, including 29% of Republicans and more than three out of four undecided voters, believe that Georgia prosecutors were justified in bringing charges against Trump,” WPA Principal Amanda Iovino said in a statement.

“If a jury were to convict him on any of the four pending cases, it could send shockwaves through the Republican Party and Trump’s campaign, with a significant faction of GOP voters indicating they might abstain from the 2024 election altogether. Not only would this hand Biden another four years, it could cost Republicans the House and jeopardize gains in the Senate.”
