Bloodied woman found hogtied near Oregon bridge
A woman was miraculously rescued late Friday after a career criminal allegedly left her bloodied and hogtied near an Oregon bridge, officials said.
The victim was found with a bloodied face and hands tied behind her back with a rope and shoelaces around 11 p.m. on the Yaquina Bay Bridge, according to KPTV.
Newport Police heard someone calling for help while moving construction materials, the outlet said.
The woman, who remains unidentified, told officers that she had been lured to an isolated area of Yaquina Bay State Park by a man earlier that day.
After hitting her on the head and tying her up, the man allegedly made off with the woman’s belongings. She then hobbled up to the bridge, where she was able to flag down help. She was later hospitalized.
Law enforcement quickly identified the suspect as Thomas Lee Brannies, a local man with an extensive criminal record, including an outstanding warrant for an assault charge.
Brannies, 34, was arrested shortly after 3 a.m. when his car was spotted in a JC Thriftway parking lot. Officials confirmed that the woman’s items were found in the vehicle.
Brannies was booked at the Lincoln County Jail on 5 charges, including first-degree kidnapping and second-degree theft. His bail is set at $500,000.
The Newport Police and members of Brannies’ family did not immediately respond to a request for a comment.
