Boy, 11, dies after NY-bound flight makes emergency landing in Budapest
An 11-year-old boy onboard a flight to New York City died after his plane made an emergency landing in Budapest Sunday morning.
Flight TK003 to JFK airport took off from Istanbul, Turkey, at 8:56 local time before quickly diverting to Hungary after a young boy lost consciousness, Budapest International Airport officials said in a statement.
Officials said the plane conducted an emergency landing in Budapest at around 10:30 a.m., where an ambulance was on hand to transport the boy and his family to the hospital.
“Airport Medical Service (AMS), the medical service operating at Ferenc Liszt International Airport, was alerted to the aircraft and continued to resuscitate the child,” a spokesperson from the airport said.
“Despite the rapid and professional intervention, unfortunately, his life could not be saved. The aircraft continued its journey to its original destination.”
Officials have yet to announce the cause of death of the child. It remains unknown if the boy was American.
Turkish Airlines did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
