British Open snooker 2023: Mark Allen reveals official complaint to WST – ‘I don’t think that’s much to ask’
The UK champion – who meets Kyren Wilson on Wednesday afternoon in a bid to secure a last-32 clash with Barry Hawkins in Cheltenham – said: “I just don’t think I get what I deserve back. I don’t think that’s much to ask.”
The Antrim man will topple Ronnie O’Sullivan from the top of the standings if he can claim the £100,000 first prize on Sunday night.
“I just think it’s not the first time. Some of the decisions they have made over the years are not right.
“Obviously, the complaint I have made is about me and my situation and some of the scenarios that have arisen in the last few years.
“I will keep that in-house because I want to try and keep it official.
“I believe I am one that has always been open and honest with you guys in the media.
“I am always forthcoming with World Snooker, always doing my media duties, always going above and beyond to do little clips for them and for the TV crews.
“I just don’t think I get what I deserve back. I don’t think that’s much to ask. No.1 from last season, three titles, UK Championship winner.
“I feel I deserve a bit more credit than what I am currently getting.”
A spokesperson for WST, in response to Allen’s comments, said: “WST always encourages the players to engage directly with us on issues they might have to seek a satisfactory resolution. It would be inappropriate for us to comment on these private conversations.”
Allen completed a 4-1 victory over former world semi-finalist Anthony McGill in the opening round of the British Open.
But he has been handed a tough task from the open FA Cup-style draw, with two more prospective matches looming against top-16 opponents in Wilson and new European Masters champion Hawkins.
