Brooks Koepka leads by four as play at The Masters called off due to waterlogged course

Weather won the day on Saturday at Augusta, as play was abandoned with the leaders having played only six holes of their third round.

After sweltering conditions on Thursday, wet and cold fronts moved in and forced Friday’s play to be called off early.

The players returned to complete their second rounds on Saturday morning, but were greeted by wet conditions at Augusta National.

Once the second round was completed and the cut confirmed – Rory McIlroy missed out but Tiger Woods made it through on the cut mark at three-over – players were sent out in three balls and from two-tee starts at one and ten.

Brooks Koepka began the round with a two-shot lead and as was the case over the course of the opening two days, he played solid golf.

Koepka’s iron play was not as good as the first two rounds, which was not surprising given the brutal conditions, but he was able to scramble for pars from bunkers on a couple of occasions.

He made a routine birdie on the second to get to 13-under, which is the score he will begin with when play gets back underway on Sunday.

Koepka will also sleep on a four-shot lead, after nearest pursuer Jon Rahm made costly mistakes on the fourth and fifth.

Rahm found himself out of position on both holes and was unable to scramble for pars.

He steadied the ship on the sixth and will return to the seventh green on Sunday morning with a birdie putt.

Conditions are predicted to be better on Sunday – they could barely be worse – but making up ground is likely to be tough.

Of the top 10 players on the leaderboard, only Koepka, Patrick Cantlay and Matt Fitzpatrick were under par when play was called off, but the latter two are eight shots adrift of the four-time major winner.
