Canadian Siblings Hannah and Jared Schmidt clinch respective ski cross World Cup titles in Arosa, Switzerland
Canada’s Hannah and Jared Schmidt made it a family reunion on top of the Ski Cross World Cup podium in Arosa.
Hannah clinched her first World Cup victory of the season in dramatic fashion in Switzerland, before her brother Jared added a second gold to his name following a first-place finish in Val Thorens last week.
After topping her semi-final earlier in the session, 29-year-old Hannah was the sole competitor to cross the finish line in the women’s big final, following DNFs from France’s Marielle Berger Sabbatel, Austria’s Christina Foedermayr and fellow Canadian Marielle Thompson.
The three women tied for second after crashing out in Switzerland.
Last week’s winner from Val Thorens, Daniela Maier finished seventh overall after finishing last in her semi-final while Olympic champion Sandra Naeslund could only qualify for the small final, which she duly won to retain her overall discipline lead.
Jared led a glorious Canadian one-two in the men’s big final, finishing just ahead of teammate Reece Howden who clinched silver.
Sweden’s Erik Mobaerg edged out Tobias Mueller of Germany for bronze.
