Carlos Alcaraz to return to action at Argentina Open following injury suffered prior to Australian Open

Carlos Alcaraz will return to action at the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires following his leg injury suffered prior to the 2023 Australian Open.

Alcaraz was forced to withdraw from the first Grand Slam of the year in Melbourne after contracting a muscle issue in his right leg, but his time on the sidelines looks set to be a short one with the tournament in Buenos Aires kicking off on February 11.

In a video message posted to social media, Alcaraz said: “I wanted to let you guys know that I will be playing the Argentina Open.

“I’m honestly super excited to travel to Argentina and play there, so I hope to see everyone there. I’ll see you soon.”

As well as the Argentina Open, Alcaraz’s schedule looks set to take him to Rio the week after – where he is the defending champion – and then Acapulco.

Beyond that, he is expected to head to the US for the ‘Sunshine Swing’, which incorporates the ATP 1000 events in Miami and Indian Wells.

Alcaraz could lose his world No. 1 ranking depending on results at the Australian Open, with Novak Djokovic, Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas the names in the frame.
