Charles Barkley says Democrats only care about black people ‘every four years’
Charles Barkley ripped into President Biden and the Democratic Party Wednesday, accusing them of only caring “about black people every four years” before an election.
The co-host of CNN’s “King Charles” show sounded off while explaining why he believed former President Donald Trump held an appeal for some black voters.
“The reason I think the Democratic Party and Mr. Biden, President Biden, is losing black votes is they only care about black people every four years,” Barkley proclaimed.
The notoriously blunt NBA great argued that progressives only visit black neighborhoods and make empty promises to win votes.
“And then finally us black people are like, ‘I don’t know, man, other than my ability to dunk a basketball, all my neighbors’ hoods are still the same, our schools are still the same,’” he said, “and that’s why I think black people are leaving disappointed the Democratic Party.”
Barkley, 61, said he has voted Democratic in nearly every election “’cause I thought it was gonna help black people and poor people,” he continued.
The Phoenix Suns legend said he only voted Republican one time, casting a ballot for former Ohio Gov. John Kasich during his failed bid for the White House.
“But then I’m starting to look like, man, I understand why black people are leaving [the Democratic Party], want to vote for somebody else…” Barkley added.
CNN pundit Van Jones agreed with Barkley’s hot take — but noted that poor whites who have been voting for GOP candidates for generations have seen no more progress achieved than black people who have been voting for Democrats.
“So there’s a poor people problem with both parties,” Jones concluded.
