Charlotte Hornets’ James Bouknight arrested on DWI charge

Charlotte Hornets guard James Bouknight was arrested for driving while impaired on Sunday days after being nabbed for speeding and reckless driving, according to Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Police stopped Bouknight, 22, at 1:51 a.m. on Sunday before taking him into custody.

A $2,500 bond was given to the Hornets’ 2021 first round draft pick.

The team released a statement on Bouknight’s arrest.

“We are aware of the incident involving James Bouknight and are in the process of gathering additional information,” the team said. “We will have no further comment at this time.”

It is unclear whether Bouknight will travel — or play — in the Hornets’ Oct. 19 regular season opener against the San Antonio Spurs.

The former Uconn Huskies star has a history of speeding, as court records cite two previous charges pending from when he was stopped in Mecklenburg County in North Carolina, local outlets detail.

On Oct. 12, Bouknight received a ticket for speeding and reckless driving after being pulled over for driving 92 mph in a 50 mph zone.

In February, Bouknight was pulled over again for reckless driving.

Bouknight has a court date set for those two incidents in December.

Bouknight played in 31 games for the Hornets during his rookie season last year, averaging 4.6 points per game.
