Charlotte Sena’s alleged kidnapper Craig Ross Jr. suffers from MS

The suspected kidnapper of nine-year-old Charlotte Sena is a “recluse” who suffers from multiple sclerosis and moved onto his mother’s property after he failed to make payment on his home, neighbors revealed.

Craig Ross Jr., 46, was arrested Monday for allegedly kidnapping Charlotte while she was biking in Moreau Lake State Park in Upstate New York. The little girl was found hiding in the cupboard of a camper that Ross had recently moved into.

Neighbors told Daily Mail that the 47-year-old severely suffered from multiple sclerosis and had recently moved back onto his mother’s property in Ballston Spa about a month ago due to his condition.

“This was his home up until about four weeks ago, he had to move back into the trailer with his mom because his MS got so bad,” one neighbor, who was not identified, told The Mail. “He was pretty reclusive, he moved in shortly after us.”

Police had descended Monday on Ross’ former property, where he allegedly cared for his 11-year-old daughter a few days a week. His two sons reportedly lived with him on the property.

The property is located less than two miles from Charlotte’s family home.

Neighbors also said that Ross struggled to move around his property in Porters Corner and had fallen behind on payments, Daily Mail reported. He was often seen working in his yard but rarely spoke to those in the neighborhood.

He reportedly moved into the trailer behind his mother’s house — where Charlotte was found in a cupboard — after his MS got worse.

Ross’ daughter also spent a lot of time at the three-bedroom home prior to moving and neighbors were surprised their “quiet neighbor” had been suspected of kidnapping, Daily Mail reported.

“I was shocked by all of this,” the neighbor told the website.

Ross, who appeared extremely disheveled in his mugshot, was taken to the Saratoga County Jail after his arrest and is being held without bond.

Police are expected to question the alleged kidnapper all day to find out if he had stalked the Sena family and if he is a pedophile, Newsweek reports.

They will also speak with his family and friends about his whereabouts and his character, while simultaneously comparing his DNA against a database of child abduction cases.

It is unclear if Ross targeted Charlotte specifically or went after her at random when she was alone for a few minutes while riding her bike through Moreau Lake State Park, where she had been camping with her family on Saturday.

The 6-foot 4-inch tall suspect’s plan was thwarted when his DNA was matched to fingerprints on a ransom note he left in the Sena’s family mailbox.

His prints also matched him in their database to a 1999 DWI charge, according to Governor Kathy Hochul.

“He literally drove up to the family’s mailbox, assuming they were not home [at] 4:20 in the morning, opens the mailbox and inserts the ransom note leaving the critical piece of evidence behind — his own fingerprint,” Hochul said at a press conference Tuesday.

Ross was taken into custody “after some resistance” and was charged with one count of kidnapping and is expected to cop more charges.

He is due back in court later this week.
