Chelsea line up Jose Mourinho for third spell at Stamford Bridge to replace Frank Lampard – Paper Round

Mourinho contacted for third Chelsea spell

Jose Mourinho could take over from Frank Lampard in the summer for a third spell at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard is the interim replacement for Graham Potter, but Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann are just two options as permanent replacements.

“CHELSEA have reportedly sounded out Jose Mourinho over a sensational THIRD stint in charge of the club,” a report in The Sun claims.

“The Blues are currently without a permanent manager following owner Todd Boehly’s axing of Graham Potter last weekend.

“The American has brought back former Blues boss Frank Lampard to take charge of the team until the end of the season as he looks for long-term replacements for Potter.

“And he’s reportedly sought out club legend Mourinho over a potential third reign as Chelsea chief.

“It’s also claimed the Blues brass have also reached out to Mourinho’s countryman Nuno Espirito Santo about the job.”

Tavares faces unclear future

Nuno Tavares was reportedly sent home from training by Marseille boss Igor Tudor this week, looks to have no future at the French club, while Mikel Arteta is not desperate to have him back at Arsenal.

The Mirror gives details on the left-back, who has struggled to impress in either England or France, and may now have to find yet another club.

“Tavares, 22, endured a difficult maiden season in the Premier League after joining the Gunners from Benfica in an £7million deal last year and was given the green light to link up with Marseille on loan for the season in the summer transfer window,” the paper reports.

“The left-back, who was eager to play first-team football on a more regular basis, made a promising start to life in Ligue 1 – but things have started to unravel over the past week or so.

“According to L’Equipe, Tudor banished Tavares from a training session last week after being irked by the Portuguese international’s attitude, with the Marseille boss later revealing that an unnamed player (Tavares) had been sent back to the dressing room because of a lack of effort.

“And off the back of that development, French outlet Foot-Sur7 have claimed that Marseille now have ‘no intention’ of pursuing a permanent deal for Tavares, whose attitude has annoyed the club hierarchy.

“Given that no permanent option was included in the initial loan deal that took Tavares to France, it appears as though the full-back will be returning to the Emirates in the summer – despite the fact he previously made it clear that he wanted to quit the club for good.”

Mourinho considers Roma future

Roma manager Jose Mourinho is weighing up his options at the end of the season as the Italian side must stick or twist with the Portuguese manager.

Roma are tied for fourth place on points and are just five points off second in Serie A, and if they qualify for the Champions League next season, Mourinho will want heavy investment.

The Daily Mail states: “Roma offered Mourinho a sanctuary in the wake of his third managerial spell in London, with several fans doubting the serial winner after his failed pursuit of silverware at Spurs.

“While Juventus saw Dybala as a problem to solve towards the end of his seven-year spell in Turin, Mourinho welcomed him with open arms, delighted to have a player with genuine star quality among his ranks.

“If Roma fail to support Mourinho in the summer transfer window sufficiently, the Giallorossi chiefs risk losing both their esteemed manager and star player. Not only would it force the club to hit the reset button on their ongoing project, but losing two key men would likely pen an irreversible wound between the board and the fans.”

Moyes to remain at West Ham

David Moyes will remain in charge of West Ham when they travel to Fulham this Saturday, despite a thrashing from Newcastle United.

He has support from Declan Rice, the club captain, according to Newcastle.

The paper reported: “Importantly, West Ham’s captain, Declan Rice, has given his backing to the manager which could be important when the dust and anger settles.

“There has not been any suggestion Moyes is no longer motivating his players. After all, this heavy, humiliating defeat came just a few days after a crucial win over Southampton but it was the way the his side were so frequently sliced apart by Newcastle who have struggled to score goals since the start of the year.

“‘For me, I love working with the manager,’ said Rice. ‘So do the players. How he is as a person, a man, he’s great for us.’”
