Chelsea set to beat Liverpool to £115 million deal for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo – Paper Round

Chelsea close in on huge Caicedo deal

The Telegraph believes Chelsea are soon to complete a transfer for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The paper reports: “Chelsea are on the brink of sealing the signing of Moises Caicedo in a British record deal worth £115million.

“Chelsea are sorting out the final terms of the deal after agreeing to better Liverpool’s £111million offer that was accepted this week.

“Caicedo informed Liverpool that he only wants to join Chelsea, which has let the London club back in and after more than 24 hours of negotiations, a deal is close to being fully agreed.

“Chelsea are now confident they have beaten Liverpool to their top transfer target of the summer, who will infinitely improve their midfield.”

United contact Bayern over Pavard

The Mirror believes that Manchester United have started the process to bring Benjamin Pavard to Old Trafford, after contacting his club, Bayern Munich.

“Manchester United have contacted Bayern Munich to register their interest in signing Benjamin Pavard – who is open to leaving the German champions,” the outlet writes.

“The France international started Bayern’s German Super Cup clash against RB Leipzig on Saturday but he could leave in the coming weeks to end his four-year stay in Munich. United boss Erik ten Hag rates Pavard’s experience and versatility – comfortable playing at right-back or in the heart of defence.

“Liverpool had shortlisted Pavard for a transfer this summer but have not advanced their interest due to their priority of strengthening their midfield. The Reds have signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, while they are keen to add at least one more midfielder to their ranks.

“United have now made contact for Pavard as they look to bolster their defence. Harry Maguire’s impending move to West Ham will follow the exits of Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe, with Ten Hag keen to add another option in the position to increase his defensive options.”

Schmeichel set for Premier League return

“Chelsea are reportedly set to make a move for ex-Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel if they lose Kepa,” claims The Sun of the Nice goalkeeper, best known for winning the Premier League with Leicester.

“The Blues have been rocked after Real Madrid shortlisted Kepa as the man to replace injured Thibaut Courtois.

“It was reported earlier this year that Schmeichel, 36, would be allowed to leave Nice.

“He joined the French side at the end of the 2021/22 season after an 11-year spell at the King Power.”

Sharp set for shock MLS switch

Billy Sharp is a free transfer after leaving Sheffield United in the summer, and now the Mail relays a story that he will sign for MLS side LA Galaxy, though not as a designated player.

The paper reports: “Former Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp is reportedly closing in on a move to MLS’ LA Galaxy – after the club was linked with Neymar earlier this week.

“The 37-year-old Blades legend left Bramall Lane in June when his contract at the club expired.

“Crucially, though, the Galaxy do not currently have an open designated player spot to occupy Neymar on their roster, with Javier Hernandez, Douglas Costa and Riqui Puig filling those slots.”
