Chelsea want Ivan Toney or Evan Ferguson, PSG target Victor Osimhen to replace Kylian Mbappe – Paper Round

Chelsea look for Osimhen alternatives

The Evening Standard believes that Chelsea are keen to look at alternatives to Victor Osimhen, now wanted by Paris Saint-Germain to replace Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe looks set to depart for Real Madrid, while Chelsea may instead go for Ivan Toney of Brentford or Brighton’s Evan Ferguson.

“Chelsea are sounding out alternatives to Victor Osimhen, with the striker now firmly in Paris Saint-Germain’s sights to replace Kylian Mbappe,” the paper writes.

“Mbappe, 25, stunned PSG on Thursday night by signalling his intent to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer.

“Real Madrid have lined up a move for the forward, who is widely regarded as being among the best players in the world.

“PSG attempted to keep Mbappe but will reinvest the money saved by letting him go into improving the squad.

“Chelsea are also interested in Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Brighton’s Evan Ferguson but will continue to sound out further options before the summer.”

Mejbri future at Sevilla already uncertain

Hannibal Mejbri was anticipated to be an important presence for Sevilla in the second half of the La Liga season, but it appears that he is very unlikely to stay beyond his current loan period.

Concerns over his attitude have led to reports in the Mirror that he could be sent back to Manchester United once his loan is up, rather than any permanent transfer taking place.

The Mirror writes: “Hannibal Mejbri’s behaviour is in the spotlight again and looks set to prevent him from earning a summer transfer away from Manchester United.

“Hannibal left United to join Sevilla on loan in the January transfer window after struggling for game time under Erik ten Hag. He was one of 13 players to leave United in the middle of the season and was hoping to impress in La Liga.

“But things have not gone to plan for the Tunisia international so far. The 21-year-old has played just 36 minutes in all competitions with his latest appearance coming off the bench for the final eight minutes against Rayo Vallecano on February 5.

“It is not the first time that Hannibal’s fiery nature has held back his career. Back in May 2022, he was involved in a training ground bust-up with United defender Alex Telles. It was alleged that the two had a heated scrap in the final weeks of Ralf Rangnick’s time in charge, before Ten Hag arrived.

“Hannibal’s talent has rarely been questioned – evidenced by his stunning goal against Brighton this season – but his behaviour appears to be an issue.”

Warnock set to move for Hoilett

New Aberdeen manager Neil Warnock could make it a Junior Hoilett hat-trick having worked with him at QPR and Cardiff City.

The winger is a free agent after coming to the end of this deal at Vancouver Whitecaps, and could now make the switch to Scotland.

The Sun reports: “Aberdeen are eyeing a deal for free agent Junior Hoilett.

“The Canada winger is available after leaving MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps.

“Hoilett, 33, previously worked with Dons boss Neil Warnock at QPR and Cardiff City. And the experienced wideman could now pen a Pittodrie deal until the end of the season.

“Aberdeen were keen to add more depth in that area even before Warnock’s arrival.”

Bolasie on course for Brazil move

Yannick Bolasie ended his recent deal with Swansea City in January, and now the Daily Mail claims that he is closing in on a move to Brazil.

The 34-year-old is set to agree a deal with Criciuma, recently promoted to the Brazilian top flight.

“A former Premier League star with 162 appearances in the English top-flight is set to move to Brazil for the next stage of his career,” the paper writes.

“Criciuma, who have just earned promotion to the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, have reportedly agreed a pre-contract with the 34-year-old French born winger, who was out of contract after the end of a short-term deal in the Championship.

“In 2015, he was part of the DR Congo side that finished in third place at that year’s AFCON tournament, scoring against Zambia in the competition.

“In November, he signed a short-term deal with Championship side Swansea City as a free agent after leaving Turkish side Caykur Rizespor at the end of last season.”
