Cher breaks silence on claim she hired men to kidnap son

Cher has spoken about the allegation that she once hired men to kidnap her troubled son.

The “Believe” singer, 77, told People “that rumor is not true,” and declined to comment further.

Last month, a report surfaced that Cher allegedly hired four men to kidnap her son Elijah Blue Allman, 47, from a New York City hotel room in an apparent intervention in November 2022.

Elijah’s estranged wife, Marieangela King, made the claim in divorce documents she filed last December.

Although the Oscar winner kept mum about the claims, she did go on to speak with People about Allman’s alleged addiction issues.

“I’m not suffering from any problem that millions of people in the United States aren’t,” she said of watching her son’s struggles with substance abuse. “I’m a mother. This is my job — one way or another, to try to help my children. You do anything for your children. Whenever you can help them, you just do it because that’s what being a mother is. But it’s joy, even with heartache — mostly, when you think of your children, you just smile and you love them, and you try to be there for them.”

She added: “I could fill … something gigantic with what I don’t know [about parenting]. I just keep trying.”

Cher had Elijah with the late Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band. In the court documents, King alleged that the “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” actress allegedly wanted her son kidnapped as he was attempting to save his marriage.

Elijah and King were allegedly in New York last November when the four men barged into their hotel room. The estranged couple spent 12 days together until the men reportedly took him away Nov. 30, 2022 — the day of their wedding anniversary. Elijah filed for divorce from King in 2021.

“I am currently unaware of my husband’s wellbeing or whereabouts,” she wrote in the declaration signed Dec. 4, 2022. “I am very concerned and worried about him. I was told by one of the four men who took him that they were hired by petitioner’s mother.”

A longtime pal of Cher told Page Six that she wanted her son to go to rehab, and had the “greatest and best intentions possible.”

“Cher’s kids are the important things in her heart … I’ve no doubt that whatever she has done for Elijah has been with the greatest and best intentions possible,” the insider added. “It’s obviously hard to be the child of an icon.”

Cher is also mom to son Chaz Bono, whom she had with the late Sonny Bono.

Per USA Today, a new hearing in the court case is scheduled to take place Oct. 27 in Los Angeles after an additional postponement in April.
