Cher’s son said he was the ‘black sheep’ of family, ‘shunned’ before conservatorship filing

Shocking comments from Cher’s son, musician and artist Elijah Blue Allman, have resurfaced one day after the Grammy award-winning artist filed for a conservatorship of her troubled child, claiming he would spend all of his money on drugs.

In a 2014 interview with ET, Allman said he felt “shunned” by his famous mother and his stepbrother Chaz Bono.

“When you go to boarding school at 7 years old, it’s kind of hard to feel like you’re not being shunned,” he explained. “But I’m at an age where I’m making peace with it because you just have to. But I still … it doesn’t mean it’s right. It’s still wrong to do that.”

While talking to ET’s Rob Marciano, Allman also revealed he was buying drugs before he was even a teenager during breaks from school.

“I would come home on the weekend and me and my friends would go up to Harlem and get into all kinds of trouble. It’s actually shocking to think about myself at like 11 years old buying drugs in Harlem,” he recalled. “It’s pretty crazy. It seemed normal at the time.”

Allman also reflected on his childhood relationship with his stepbrother.

“We were close. I think what happened was Chaz went off to a performing arts school back east and I went off back east as well, later to prep school, and so from there we kind of took different paths. But for a minute growing up we were kind of close, yeah… we kind of grew apart when we started going to different schools and just not being geographically around each other.”

He added: “You know, man, we have our issues. We’ve worked through a lot of them. We’ve got some more to go, but when you’re an adult, you take on a different sort of tone than when you’re an adolescent and I’m not going to sit in an adolescent’s kind of a mind frame, because that will affect me negatively in my own life when I start my own family. So you don’t have any choice if you want to be a balanced person, but to ultimately heal. But, there’s unresolved stuff, for sure.”

Allman’s family ties continued to loosen after he suffered from a near-fatal case of Lyme disease, but while in Germany seeking treatment he met his future wife Angie, a musician and opera singer.

“Yes, this then makes you look back at this hideous ordeal that you went through that would lead you to meeting the love of your life and this is how crazy life is,” he said.

After the couple got engaged, Allman’s relationship with Cher deteriorated when the “I Got You Babe” singer allegedly failed to acknowledge her future daughter-in-law, according to the Daily Mail.

“I wasn’t going to wait for anyone’s approval and congratulations just like I’ve never waited for any of that my whole life,” he said. “The way I eloped with my wife is the same way I’ve done everything I’ve ever done. I don’t know any other way and we knew it was the right time.”

“I’ve always been the black sheep of my family,” he continued. “The reason being we just have different value systems and we just have a different mentality and that clashes a lot. We have lots of ups and downs and right now isn’t the best time. Had we been getting on a little bit better along maybe it would have been different.”

This alleged clash between Cher and Allman continued into the current day.

As previously reported by The Post on Dec. 27, the “Believe” singer filed to be the sole conservator of her son’s estate claiming Allman is “substantially unable to manage his own financial resources.”

“[Cher] has been unable to discuss Elijah’s preferences concerning the appointment of a temporary conservator because given Elijah’s current mental and physical health issues, discussed in detail in the concurrently filed Confidential Supplemental Information, he is unable to form or express a preference concerning the appointment of a conservator for his estate,” the docs read.

Cher pledged to continue to fight for her son despite their past struggles in a February 2023 interview with People.

“I’m a mother. This is my job — one way or another, to try to help my children” she said. “You do anything for your children. Whenever you can help them, you just do it because that’s what being a mother is. But it’s joy, even with heartache — mostly, when you think of your children, you just smile and you love them, and you try to be there for them.”
