Chilean influencer María Ignacia Celedón among 6 dead in head-on car crash

A popular Chilean gamer was among six people killed in a horrific head-on crash Monday morning that shocked the local community.

María Ignacia Celedón, who was known as Maru Rockets on social media, died when the taxi she was in collided with another car on Route 9 in Chile’s Punta Arenas region, according to local reports.

The crash was caused, in part, by ice on the roadway and speed was also believed to be a factor, El Desconcierto Chile reported.

Celedón and all four people in the other car — died at the scene, according to the outlet. The taxi driver died on the way to the hospital, according to BolaVIP.

The 28-year-old gamer’s boyfriend and friend who were also in the taxi were injured in the crash. Both are gaming streamers themselves. Her boyfriend Ignacio Carrasco, known as Dime Nacho on social media, and friend Shin Yang, known as Shinipan, were rushed to an area hospital.

The trio had gone on a trip to Patagonia and were taking the taxi to the airport to fly back to Santiago when it collided with the other car, El Desconcierto reported.

Celedón rose to popularity by live-streaming her gaming sessions playing Valorant first on YouTube and then on Twitch.

Celedón — who had more than 13,000 Instagram followers and 21,500 TikTok followers before her death — graduated from the University of Chile with a film degree and often appeared on Nexoplay, the Latin American channel for video game content.

The gamer rose to popularity by playing the video game Valorant which she streamed on YouTube before moving to the streaming site Twitch.

The live gaming convention Expogame, where Celedón had competed at, remembered the streamer in an Instagram post Monday.

“You were one in a million, you really taught us so much with your charisma, your professionalism and your distinctive stamp of humor and joy that you always put into everything you did,” Expogame wrote in Spanish. “…Beyond work you were a great friend to the Expogame family, and that’s what has us heartbroken today.”

The fatal crash is under investigation.
