Cleveland EMT Lachelle Jordan missing after reporting stalking
An Ohio emergency medical technician who recently told police she had “fears for her safety” has vanished — two days before she was expected to testify in the rape trial of a man accused of stalking her.
Lachelle Jordan, 30, went outside “to get something from her car that was parked on the street” on Fairport Avenue in Cleveland Saturday night and has not been seen since. She was reported missing by her family on Sunday, Cleveland police said.
Jordan, a beloved mother of two, reported being stalked at least three times before her disappearance, News 5 Cleveland reported.
The young mom was supposed to attend a pretrial hearing on Monday in a rape case involving Michael Stennett, a longtime youth baseball coach charged with two counts of rape and one count of abduction in May 2022.
Jordan told police last Thursday that Stennett, 65, “was watching her from his vehicle” as she left the same Fairport Avenue home that morning.
On Monday, Stennett was charged with one felony count of menacing by stalking and one felony count of violating a protection order while committing a felony.
He is currently being held in the Cuyahoga County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
Jordan also told police she was being stalked last month by a female friend of Stennett’s, who reportedly followed her on the freeway as she was leaving work and tried to run her off the road.
She told police she thought the woman was trying to ensure she didn’t testify in Stennett’s rape case.
Her family, friends and members of the women’s empowerment group BrickHouse Wellness banded together Wednesday to search the neighborhood for the missing woman, News 5 reported.
Jordan’s father, Joseph Jordan, made an emotional plea for his daughter’s safe return.
“I want my daughter back, I want her well. If you can do that, then that’s what works for me,” he said. “That would take away the hurt, that would take away the pain, that would take away the sorrow.”
In addition to sitting outside her home in his car, Stennett would allegedly follow Jordan in his personal vehicle while she was working as an EMT responding to 911 calls.
“We couldn’t protect her when our job is taking care and protecting the public,” said Mark Barrett, the president of Cleveland’s EMS union.
The union tried to help Jordan by taking her off the streets about three weeks ago after she repeatedly complained that Stennett and others were showing up at the 911 calls she was responding to, Barrett said.
“I think it just got to the point where the city knew they needed to get her out of the field,” Barrett said.
Jordan’s twin sister, Rachelle, who has been staying with her, would have been told of any plans to leave the house that night, Barrett told Cleveland 19.
“This certainly wasn’t planned. Something happened. She’s missing,” Barrett said.
Rachelle told the outlet she went to put her sister’s children, ages 8 and 4, to bed when she realized her sister was not home.
According to her sister, a window in the home was shot through at about 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
Cleveland police are asking anyone with information to call them. Jordan is 5 feet, 2 inches tall, and weighs 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
CrimeStoppers is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone with information about Jordan’s location.
