Comedian shares details of wild surprise for ex-girlfriend

American comedian Ari Shaffir has gone viral for sharing a detailed surprise date he planned for his ex-girlfriend.

Shaffir, 50, went on the popular podcast First Date, hosted by fellow comedian Lauren Compton, to talk all things modern romance.

When she asked him what was the “sweetest” thing he had ever done for someone, he offered quite a lengthy answer.

The comedian revealed that he had organized a date for a lady he used to see and asked her to clear her weekend but gave away no details on what they would been doing.

To add to the mystery, he told her to pack something casual, something she could hike in and a cocktail outfit.

He then picked her up, drove her to the airport, and when she again asked where they were going he told her not to “worry” about it.

Once they get on the plane, she realised they are going to Alabama, but she still needed to figure out why.

The comedian refused to reveal his reasons.

After they landed, he drove them to Mississippi, with his date becoming even more confused.

Shaffir said that he just kept telling her the whole thing was a “surprise” and that she had nothing to worry about.

They stayed the night in Philadelphia, at the best hotel in town, and then the next day it was revealed that Dolly Parton, who rarely performs anymore, was putting on a concert in the city to support her friend and fellow country star Marty Stuart. The concert was held to raise funds for Stuart’s Congress of Country Music museum.

Shaffir said that when the tickets initially went on sale months prior, he had waited in line and managed to grab some.

He then got to surprise his date with amazing seats, only 12 rows back from the front of the stage.

The comedian said his date was thrilled but shared that she’d wished she’d known so she could have packed a more fun outfit.

Shaffir then revealed he’d planned for this and got her friend to pack a special Parton outfit for her, and it was perfect and included many tassels.

“It was the best!” he said.

The sweet date story was a hit online, with women absolutely loving hearing how much effort a man had put in.

“The end just sealed the deal for me. I love,” one commented.

Another claimed it was an example of someone being “intentional” and making time for their romantic partner, while another said the date sounded “exquisite.”

One person said it was the perfect example of realizing that if a man wants to make an effort, he will.
