Cops searching for Seattle driver who mowed down pedestrians
A Seattle driver is wanted after they were caught on camera deliberately running over two pedestrians a block apart, as occupants in the car laughed about it and encouraged them to “hit this bitch.”
Surveillance footage released by the Seattle Police Department shows a vehicle seemingly swerving to directly hit a woman crossing the street at 1:50 a.m on Nov. 26
Multiple people could be seen running over to help the unidentified victim before a car stops — and the driver gets out and carries the woman into the passenger seat before driving away.
The footage matched with a clip taken on a cellphone from inside the vehicle that hit the woman — which cops say was posted to social media.
In that video, an occupant in the back seat with a feminine voice could be heard telling the driver, “Hit this bitch, hit this bitch” before the car plows into the victim.
A thump could then be heard as the vehicle strikes the woman, at which point the occupants start to laugh.
In a second incident — just a block away from the first — the driver can be seen directly plowing into another pedestrian, striking the unsuspecting victim head-on from behind, giving them no chance to move out of the way first.
Again, a loud thump could be heard as the body strikes the hood of the car, sending the victim flying over the roof of the vehicle.
It is unclear when that incident occurred.
Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz said the “disturbing” attacks have left him “extremely concerned.”
Residents also said they were shocked by the videos, noting that most people walk rather than use a car in the area.
“It almost seems like they think it’s a joke, or like they’re doing it for fun, which is, like, pretty horrifying,” neighbor Ethan Gunnel told KIRO.
“I don’t know what kind of person would think it’s funny hitting people.”
Officers say it is likely the victims suffered serious injuries based on the speed of impact in the videos.
Detectives have been trying to locate the victims by canvassing local hospitals, according to KOMO.
But so far, police have not yet had any luck finding those who were hit.
