Cristiano Ronaldo named in Roberto Martinez’s first Portugal squad for Euro 2024 qualifiers

Cristiano Ronaldo has been named in the Portugal squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifying matches this month.

Robert Martinez announced his first squad as Portugal head coach on Friday, having left the Belgium national team following their World Cup group stage exit.

There was uncertainty surrounding Ronaldo’s international future, having been dropped from the starting 11 during the World Cup in Qatar by Fernando Santos, who left his role after eight years in charge.

The 38-year-old is Portugal’s record goalscorer and is set to add to his 198 caps when they take on Liechtenstein and Luxembourg.

In January, Ronaldo joined Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr on a contract that runs until 2025.

He scored his first goal in a 2-2 draw against Al-Fateh and scored four goals in his side’s 4-0 win over Al Wehda.

A second hat-trick followed at Damac at the end of February, but he has not scored since then and Al Nassr trailed league leaders Al-Ittihad by one point.

The biggest absentees are Liverpool’s Diogo Jota and Chelsea loanee Joao Felix.
