Dad stabs 1-year-old daughter to death after Amber Alert

A 1-year-old girl from Texas at the center of an Amber Alert was stabbed to death by her father, who then killed himself after being cornered by cops, police said.

Leylani Ordonez was found mortally wounded after her father, 24-year-old Alexander Barrios Ordonez, led police on an hour-long chase in a stolen tow truck early Wednesday morning, ABC13 reported.

After pursuing officers disabled Ordonez’s vehicle with spike strips on FM 762 in Rosenberg at around 3 a.m., the father exited the vehicle with his baby, who was covered in blood, Rosenberg Police Department Lt. Suni Jugueta told reporters.

A short time later, Ordonez stabbed himself. Both the father and daughter were taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The incident began unfolding at around 6 p.m. the day before, when police said Ordonez went into a business in Rosenberg, stabbed a man whom he previously worked for and stole his tow truck.

Ordonez then drove to the home of his daughter’s babysitter on Brooks Avenue and abducted the baby, prompting police to issue the Amber Alert.

It’s unclear how and where Ordonez spent the next several hours, but at around 2 a.m. Wednesday, cops with the Sugar Land Police Department spotted him driving the stolen green 2004 F-450 truck near University and Highway 6.

The chase ended on FM 762 in Rosenberg hours after police issued an Amber Alert for Leylani.

Police ordered the driver to pull over, but Ordonez refused to stop, launching a pursuit that ended back in Rosenberg an hour later.

Rosenberg police said investigators don’t know when Leylani was stabbed because “the baby was already bloody” by the time her dad carried her out of the truck.

Ordonez’s former employer who was knifed Tuesday was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
