He will next face Jordan Thompson or Milos Raonic in the quarter-finals.

Medvedev made a decent start to the match as he broke twice in the opening set and then served it out with a love game.

But Mannarino caused the top seed problems with his deep hitting and clever angles.

He took the second set and then pulled away in the third after an early break to clinch an impressive win.

Home favourite Tallon Griekspoor and Australian Alex de Minaur also advanced at the tournament.

Taylor Fritz made an encouraging start to his grass campaign as he beat Aslan Karatsev 7-6(4) 6-3 in Stuttgart.

Fritz, who won the title in Eastbourne and reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals in 2022, fired down 14 aces on his way to victory.

He saved a set point in the opener before prevailing in one hour and 25 minutes.

Fritz will meet Marton Fucsovics in the quarter-finals.

Qualifier Fucsovics followed up his first-round win against Denis Shapovalov with a 6-4 4-6 6-4 win over Yibing Wu.
