Daniil Medvedev roars to another ATP Tour title as he defeats Andrey Rublev in Dubai – ‘It is amazing’

Daniil Medvedev continued his remarkable form as he stormed to yet another ATP Tour title after defeating Andrey Rublev in the final in Dubai on Saturday.

The 27-year-old lost just four games in the entire match as he claimed a 6-2 6-2 victory in a very comprehensive fashion to complete a hat-trick of crowns in recent weeks.

Medvedev, who put an abrupt end to Novak Djokovic’s unbeaten start to the season in the semi-finals of the ATP 500 event, extended his fine winning streak to 14 matches as he completed the win in 68 minutes.

For the 2021 US Open champion, who opened up to Eurosport earlier in the week about his desire to return to Wimbledon this summer, it was a case of trying “to make him suffer” as he knows all too well that “he tries to make me suffer”.

“It is amazing because, at the start of the year, it was not perfect. In tennis when you don’t win matches you have doubts. Now it just feels better,” Medvedev said after his latest very impressive victory.

“I was really happy with these three weeks and I am looking forward to the next ones. It was very tactical. I know Andrey can cause a lot of trouble for everyone on Tour.

“Every time we play he tries to make me suffer, and I try to make him suffer. Today I managed to be on top, but the next match could be a different story.”

As a result of his latest triumph, Medvedev has risen to world No. 6 in the ATP Live Rankings, while he has bumped his countryman Rublev down to No. 7 in the process.

Medvedev now boasts a 5-2 head-to-head record over Rublev, and can also reflect on the added fillip of having overcome Australian Open champion Djokovic a few days earlier.

With all the talk about Roland-Garros, the second Grand Slam of the season, pitting Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz together, Medvedev’s incredible form this season should certainly not be overlooked.
