Dave Portnoy slams man using speakerphone in airport: ‘Makes no sense!’

Just call him the phone collector.

In a video on Monday, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, 46, took to Twitter to blast a man who appeared to be talking on speakerphone in the airport near him.

“So, I’m flying commercial because Elio bankrupted me and I gotta be honest, I don’t get people like this,” Portnoy said as he panned his phone camera to a man sitting behind him who was blasting the other end of his conversation.

“Who puts their buddy on speaker like this?” Portnoy asked. “It’s crazy. Does he even hear me talkin’ about him? Just take it off speaker, put it in your phone. It’s basic human decency.”

He continued to pan around the camera to show the man’s backside, and then quoted a fictional “Seinfeld” character

“As George Costanza said, ‘We’re living in a society,’” Portnoy said. “Makes no sense!”

In the caption of his Tweet, Portnoy wrote, “WERE LIVING IN A SOCIETY! Don’t talk on speaker phone in a crowded public space.”

Portnoy also posted the same clip to his Instagram stories on Monday.

The Post reached out to Portnoy for comment.

In response to his Tweet, which has garnered more than 1.1 million views, some users were split over what could be considered the “correct” speakerphone etiquette in public.

“Amen! I cannot understand this phenomenon,” one Twitter user wrote in response. “Why would anyone think the whole world is interested in their random convo. Super annoying.”

“I feel like anytime someone does this, or listens to music without headphones it’s further evidence we are living in the most self-centered time to be alive,” another added.

Someone else agreed, writing, “100%. 10x worse when they do it going through the checkout line.”

However, others called out Portnoy for seemingly doing the same thing in a public space.

“Guy in camo records himself talking to his phone about a guy talking on his phone… makes no sense loser,” a user wrote.

One person pointed out, “If he’s like me, he can’t hear the regular private call. Some people have hearing problems and a speaker phone is louder. I would have headphones if I where him if that’s his issue.”

“And you’re talking loud to yourself recording the back of someone’s head now you both look like goofballs,” another tweeted, to which Portnoy replied that he was doing this for “the little guy.”

“You just want me to sit idly by while a crime is committed?” he wrote in response. “I’m not doing it for me or to create content. I’m doing it for the little guy who doesn’t have a platform to speak out. For Little Johnny who doesn’t want to hear a full on convo in his ear. I should be hailed as a hero.”

However, Portnoy isn’t the only one who has sparked debate over airplane and airport etiquette in recent months.

Last month, a Reddit user begged for there to be “child-free” airports.

“Stuck at an airport, with over an hour delay, knowing I’m going to be missing transport home and have to get a taxi is bad,” the user wrote.

“But having to hear the multiple kids that are extra tired, definitely makes it 100 times worse.”

And, earlier this month, a TikToker sparked debate after sharing an “unethical hack” to do when the person in front of you reclines their seat too far back.

They suggested blasting the air conditioning on them, which divided viewers.
