David de Gea ‘looks as if he’s had a few drinks’ – Roy Keane blasts Manchester United goalkeeper for error

Roy Keane ripped into Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea for his “shocking mistake” to gift Everton a goal in their FA Cup third-round clash.

The Red Devils made a rapid start at Old Trafford and took the lead inside four minutes through Antony.

United’s advantage lasted 10 minutes, as Everton defender Conor Coady turned the ball in from close range following a howler from De Gea.

Neal Maupay chased down a ball near the byline and stabbed it back towards goal.

There did not appear to be obvious danger, but De Gea got in a terrible tangle and allowed the ball to dribble through his legs – leaving Coady with the simple task of finishing from a yard out.

It took a number of looks at the replay to comprehend what had happened, as De Gea looked on in bewilderment.

Former Manchester United midfielder Keane was on hand in the ITV Sport studio, and made his feelings on the issue clear.

“It’s a shocking mistake from an international goalkeeper,” Keane said. “It’s like Carry On football.

“It looks as if he’s had a few drinks. It’s a shocking mistake.”

Keane felt De Gea gave a passable impression of a novice goalkeeper.

“It’s almost as if a ‘keeper has been sent off and an outfield player has gone in goal and does not know what to do. It is a horrendous mistake.”

While it left him red faced, De Gea’s error did not prove costly as United regrouped to claim a 3-1 win to advance to round four of the FA Cup.

Coady put the ball in the same net, but on the second occasion it was an own goal on 52 minutes.

Everton had a goal disallowed for offside as they threatened a rally, but a late penalty from Marcus Rashford secured United’s passage to the next round.
