Delaware man Jamal Wing bites police dog while evading arrest
A drunk Delaware man bit a police dog “multiple times” while trying to evade arrest Saturday, according to officials.
Jamal Wing, 47, allegedly launched the beastly attack after State Police pulled him over in a Wilmington parking lot at 1:40 a.m. for speeding on an area highway.
Wing then jumped out of the car “without being told” and refused troopers’ commands to get back inside the vehicle, the officials allege.
The troopers sicked their K9 on Wing while trying to arrest him, but the Wilmington man reportedly chomped back.
“Wing continued to resist and bit the DSP K9 multiple times.” the department said in a statement.
After troopers were finally able to subdue the retaliating man, they claim they smelled alcohol on his breath and noticed signs of impairment.
Wing suffered multiple injuries in the scuffle — including a gash above his left eye — and was transported to an area hospital, where he allegedly continued his struggle for escape.
“Two troopers and K9 Mako were injured by Wing and required medical evaluation at an area hospital,” the department said.
Wing was released from the hospital and charged with a slew of offenses, including assaulting the K9 and its two officers, driving under the influence, resisting arrest with force, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, failure to have required license and speeding in excess.
He is being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $34,200 cash bond.
