Democratic donors are doubling down on Biden despite concerns about age
Top Democratic donors are doubling down on President Biden’s re-election – despite a Wall Street Journal poll that states 80% of Americans believe he’s too old, On The Money has learned.
Biden, who is slated to come to New York City for the UN General Assembly the week of Sept. 18, is also slated to attend a slew of fundraisers during his trip. Those include a “Broadway for Biden” event where Lin-Manuel Miranda, Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban are set to perform.
The event on Sept. 18 will be co-hosted by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s father — political operative Luis Miranda Jr. as well as Eric Mindich, founder of Everblue Management; Orin Kramer, founder of Boston Provident; and Fred Hochberg, former president of Export-Import Bank.
On Sept. 20, Biden will attend an event hosted by “Lawyers for Biden.” He is then scheduled to join a small, private reception hosted by Amy Goldman-Fowler, a billionaire heiress who is asking $50,000 per attendee and $100,000 per couple.
“The enthusiasm amongst donors is so much greater than people realize,” a source told On The Money.
While names like Gavin Newsom and Gretchen Whitmer have been floated, all major donors are laser-focused on raising money for Biden. Insiders say the numbers – which show Biden outraising Trump two to one – speak for themselves.
Last quarter Biden raised $72 million compared to the $35 million Trump raised.
While Trump has been able to raise millions from his base following his arrest, Trump’s legal woes may have invigorated Democrats even more than MAGA donors.
“The thought of Trump being president again is enough to get any Democratic donor to open their checkbook,” Charles Myers, a longtime Democratic donor, told On The Money.
Multiple sources also say they believe Biden’s age is irrelevant and that they believe he’s as sharp as ever.
“Asking about age is the wrong question… the real question is who can win,” another source added.
