Derek Hough’s wife Hayley Erbert hospitalized for emergency skull surgery

Derek Hough’s wife, fellow professional dancer Hayley Erbert, is hospitalized Thursday after undergoing an “emergency craniectomy.”

“At the end of last night’s tour performance in Washington D.C., my wife Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital,” the “Dancing with the Stars” judge wrote Thursday on Instagram. “She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy. She is in stable condition.”

The pair are in the midst of their “Symphony of Dance” tour and are scheduled to perform a sold-out show Thursday in Virginia Beach.

“I want to thank the first responders and medical personnel who have cared for and continue to care for her. I ask for your prayers and positivity during this time,” Hough concluded.

A craniectomy is a type of surgery to remove a portion of the skull to help relieve extra pressure on the brain.

An intracranial hematoma — a collection of blood within the skull, is usually caused by head trauma, such as a car crash or fall.

It is unclear what contributed to Erbert’s head trauma, but she and Hough were both involved in a car crash last December.

The “So You Think You Can Dance” alum received stitches around her eyebrow at the time.

“On December 12, Derek and I got into a pretty scary car accident in the mountains,” Erbert captioned a graphic video shared to Instagram following the incident.

“Our accident involved a steep hill, icy roads, a tree, and worst of all, the fear that we would slide off the mountain. Given the circumstances, we have so much to be grateful for,” she said, adding that they were the only people involved.

Erbert continued, “I only walked away a little banged up, a swollen face, and four stitches above my eyebrow. Now, more than ever, we realize how fragile life is and how important it is to love those around you. We hope that everyone has a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season.”

The Post has contacted reps for Hough, 38, and Erbert, 29, for comment.

Several of the couples’ “DWTS” family members reacted to Hough’s scary announcement.

“Praying and sending all our love your way. We love you Hayley,” Jenna Johnson commented on his Thursday post.

“Omg derek, thinking of you guys right now. Sending Hayley so much love and healing light,” Emma Slater wrote.

Recent “DWTS” winner Xochitl Gomez added, “Focusing all my positivity and well wishes directly toward Hayley. She is a shining light.”

Hough and Erbert married in August after seven years of dating.

The dancing duo told “Extra” earlier this year that they had a “beautiful time” on their honeymoon to Italy and were “absolutely” thinking about having kids.
