Dominion’ is ‘just plain bad’
“Jurassic World: Dominion” hits theaters this Friday, although viewers probably won’t be clawing their way to see it.
Critics have trashed the upcoming installment of the “Jurassic Park” franchise, with many finding it lackluster and inferior to previous films.
“Dominion” stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, as well as actors from the 1993 movie “Jurassic Park,” including Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.
Joshua Axelrod, a writer for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, described the new film as “obviously hokey as hell in many aspects, but Dern, Goldblum and Neill are worth the price admission alone.”
Gizmodo entertainment reporter Germain Lussier claimed the action-adventure is “so bad.”
“It’s too long, it’s wildly repetitive & the dinosaurs are window dressing for multiple uninteresting, unrelated stories,” Lussier added. “The actors do their best but its all just overindulgent & pointless. One of, if not the, worst in the franchise.”
Another critic tweeted that the movie “is just plain bad. The old cast (main reason I went to see this) felt like they were sleepwalking thru the film.”
“[‘Jurassic World: Dominion’] is cluttered with 50 storylines & paint by numbers situations. It doesn’t stand out or make me care. While there’s some great action, once it lost its focus it never recovered,” one added.
“#JurassicWorldDominion is absolutely terrible. It’s like a bunch of hot shots brainstormed dino-centric theme park rides & put them into a movie,” journalist Tomris Laffly noted. “Bugs are more prominent than dinosaurs. A misfire on all fronts with bankrupt ethics. Save your hard earned [money].”
Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” series was softly rebooted with “Jurassic World” in 2015 and was followed by a sequel in 2018, entitled “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.”
The revivals brought in loads of money, with the first movie grossing over $1.6 billion at the box office. “Fallen Kingdom” trailed close behind and garnered about $1.3 billion.
Dern, 55, and Neill, 74, previously discussed their characters’ age gap romance from the ’90s-era flick.
The “Tudors” star told the Sunday Times last month, “I am 20 years older than Laura! Which at the time was a completely appropriate age difference for a leading man and lady.”
The “Marriage Story” star agreed with his comments, noting: “Well, it felt completely appropriate to fall in love with Sam Neill.”
The Oscar-winner added, “And it was only now, when we returned in a moment of cultural awareness about the patriarchy, that I was, like, ‘Wow! We’re not the same age?’”
