Donald Trump ‘bad’ for GOP, will lose to Biden: Chris Christie

Ex-New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie warned that nominating Donald Trump as president would be “bad for the Republican Party” and guarantee President Joe Biden’s re-election.

“I’m very concerned that what we’re heading towards is a Trump-Biden rematch,” Christie said while appearing Sunday on WABC 770 AM’s “Cats Roundtable” with John Catsimatidis.

“A Trump-Biden rematch is bad for the Republican Party.”

Christie said Trump has been an albatross for the GOP since winning the White House in 2016.

“Donald Trump has done nothing but lose since he won the election in 2016. “We lost the House in 2018. The Senate and the White House in 2020. We under-performed in 2022 and lost more governorships and another Senate seat,” Christie said.

“Donald Trump cannot win.”

Christie, who unsuccessfully ran for president himself in 2016 as Trump steamrolled to the nomination, is weighing whether to make another bid for the White House.

“He’s on a vanity exercise to try to make himself feel better. That’s not going to make the country any better,” Christie said of Trump.

“That’s why I’m considering it because I’m concerned that the people that are in the race so far are unwilling to take him on directly. The only way to beat the front runner is to take the front runner on directly,” he added.

Christie previously rapped Trump for suggesting he might skip the primary debates because he’s the front-runner.

But Christie also slammed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has emerged as potentially Trump’s toughest Republican challenger for the GOP nomination, for his attack on the Walt Disney Co. DeSantis, a Republican, is expected to announce a run for the White House.

“His fight against Disney was ill advised, poorly executed, and not conservative. I always believed that conservatives thought that it was wrong to use the power and the levers of government to try to change the way people think, and to punish people for taking a position on a public issue,” Christie said.

“Yet that’s exactly what Gov. DeSantis did with Disney. It’s wrong. And then he got outmaneuvered by [Disney CEO] Bob Iger on top of it … Instead of bowing out gracefully from that and saying he made a mistake, [DeSantis] is now doubling down

“I’m very concerned he doesn’t have the temperament and the judgment to be President of the United States,” he added.

The former New Jersey governor supported Trump in both 2016 and 2020, and helped him with debate preparation, but said he would no longer back the defeated candidate over his failure to accept his general election defeat.
