Drew Barrymore isn’t dating a Rams quarterback — but she thought she was
Drew Barrymore is about ready to swipe left on dating apps.
On Friday’s episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” the “50 First Dates” star revealed she was lied to by a man joking around about his high-profile occupation.
“Ready for this one?” Barrymore, 48, asked her co-host, Ross Mathews, before diving into the disaster.
“This guy on my dating app said he was the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams. So I wrote to him and I was like, ‘Oh my God, I went to the first practice game. I was so frustrated being a girl from Los Angeles who loves football and we didn’t have any teams. And then I moved away to New York and then we got two teams. And it’s nice to meet you, my name is Drew.’”
After a dramatic pause, she continued, “He was not the quarterback for the LA Rams — he’s a musician that thought he was being cute. How should I feel about this?”
Mathews responded, “You should feel lied too, robbed. I had a fantasy you’d be like the new Taylor Swift and you’d be at the games.”
“Well, we’re also going to the Super Bowl,” Barrymore said, “And I was like, ‘Oh, maybe I could meet …’ I wasn’t trying to land a football player. I was excited to talk about that I had been at the Coliseum to see their first game in Los Angeles.
“And then the guy was like, ‘Hey, Drewski,’” she cringed. “And I was like, ‘I hate you … You pithy, deceiving, playful — you’ve made me feel stupid.’”
“‘I don’t know who you are. I feel so dumb. Why did we have to get off on this foot? I hate you!’” she passionately told a stunned Mathews.
Barrymore has spoken openly about being single since her four-year marriage to art consultant Will Kopelman ended in 2016. They have two daughters together: Olive, 11, and Frankie, 9.
But in October 2023, the “Never Been Kissed” star told her talk show guest Gwyneth Paltrow that she had been seeing someone that she met on the exclusive member-only dating app Raya “sort of in and around the last three years.”
“I invited him to a wedding next weekend, and he said, ‘Wow, after three and a half years you are going to invite me to a wedding?’” she said at the time.
Barrymore told the Goop founder that seeing Swift be so public in her relationship with Travis Kelce made her want to break her own news.
“I just want to say, for me personally, I have been single for seven years [and] seeing her on that first date out there in the box with his family, I had a big Oprah a-ha moment,” she explained.
“There was something so normal about it, and obviously Taylor Swift is everything but normal, but I’m a female, I’m going to go out on a date with a male, I’m not going to overthink this, I am not going to be the dark horse and be secretive and weird about it,” Barrymore said.
“This was evidence of not being affected by what other people think … It was so calm, confident and normal that it just made me think I should do this, too.”
