Elaine Thompson-Herah appoints Jamaica team-mate Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s coach ahead of Paris Olympics

Jamaican track star Elaine Thompson-Herah will work with teammate Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s coach Reynaldo Walcott ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Walcott has worked with 10-time world champion Fraser-Pryce since 2020 and will now prepare Thompson-Herah for next year’s Games as she bids to defend her sprint titles.

Thompson-Herah, a five-time Olympic champion, split from Shanikie Osbourne earlier this month due to the coach’s “extremely excessive” terms, according to the sprinter’s management team.

She is the current 100m and 200m Olympic champion and also won gold in the 4x100m relay at the Tokyo 2020 Games alongside Fraser-Pryce, as well as Briana Williams and Shericka Jackson.

Injuries have halted the 31-year-old’s progress this season and she missed out on a spot at the World Championships in Budapest.

But after dominating the previous two editions of the Olympics, she’ll be hoping to be fit and firing at the Games which get underway in July.

On Monday, Thompson-Herah posted on X: “Out of difficulties grow miracles.”

Her management team added: “Thompson-Herah remains as dedicated as ever to her craft, demonstrating an unequivocal focus on the path ahead.

“Her commitment to excellence is unwavering and she is resolute in her pursuit of defending the double Olympic titles she so triumphantly earned.”

Before her clean sweep of gold medals in Tokyo, she also won the 100m and 200m in Rio four years earlier and became the world’s second-fastest woman over 100m.

Fraser-Pryce enjoyed individual Olympic success before Thompson-Herah’s dominance, winning 100m gold at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and in London four years later.
