Emma Raducanu turns to Sebastian Sachs as new coach, fifth appointment in 18 months

Emma Raducanu has turned to Sebastian Sachs as her new coach.

Sachs, who becomes Raducanu’s fifth coach in the past 18 months, oversaw Belinda Bencic’s run to gold at the Tokyo Olympics last year and has also worked with former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka.

The 30-year-old German watched Raducanu lose to Ons Jabeur 5-7 6-3 (10-8) on her return to tennis at an exhibition match in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

‘So much stuff said about me that isn’t true’ – Raducanu on ‘intense’ adaptation to fame

Raducanu was catapulted to global fame after winning the US Open in 2021 as a qualifier, but fell down the rankings during her first full season on tour after enduring a number of injuries. She is currently world No. 74.

The Brit, 20, had been without a full-time coach since splitting with Dmitry Tursunov after this year’s US Open. Tursunov later claimed her game was “very raw” and spoke of “red flags” when revealing why he ended the partnership.

Raducanu only returned from a wrist injury this month and missed the recent Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Glasgow.

Sachs’ arrival marks an effective swap with Tursunov, who is now coaching Swiss star Bencic. As well as working with Azarenka, Sachs has also helped Julia Gorges crack the world’s top 10.

Last week, Raducanu opened up about the “intense” attention she has received and claimed that much of what has been written about her “isn’t true”.
“I’ve faced quite a bit of adversity and I’ve had to keep getting back up a lot,” Raducanu told Sheerluxe.

“So much stuff is said about me that isn’t true, but I try not to let it affect me.

“The past year has meant getting used to that side of things – the publicity and hearing all these things I never even knew about myself.

“The attention on the tour is so intense.”
